Unique
on Cayman Brac, this is a personalized, small-scale bed-and-breakfast hotel
that's more richly decorated, more elegant, and more appealing than you might
have thought. Originally the home of a sea captain, it was moved to a less
exposed location and rebuilt from salvaged materials shortly after the
disastrous hurricane of 1932. Set on 3 acres of land on the island's north
shore, within a lush garden that's ripe with breadfruit, a hardy species of
mango, and a local species of edible fruit known as guenup, it contains
such
intriguing touches as a banister salvaged from the mast of a 19th-century
schooner. The most desirable accommodations are on the upper floor, partly
because of their narrow balconies that encompass views of the sea. No
meals are served other than the full American breakfasts that are included in
the price. Your hosts are Brooklyn-born Lynne Walton and her husband,
George. They retired to George's native Cayman Brac, opting today to run the most charming hotel on the
island.
